US overhauls defence acquisition policies
The US Department of Defense (DoD) has launched a major overhaul of its acquisition policies, which have come under fire in recent years for triggering cost overruns and schedule delays. John Young, the Pentagon's top acquisition official, signed a memorandum on 2 December enacting sweeping reforms of the acquisition process

Shipbuilder ASC reports increased sales
Adelaide-based ASC, the leading shipbuilder in the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN's) air warfare destroyer (AWD) programme, has recorded a four per cent rise in revenues to AUD325 million for Fiscal Year 2007-08 (FY07-08), the company said on 3 December. Profits after tax and total dividends for the state-owned company grew marginally by 0.3 and 0.5 per cent to AUD29.7 million and AUD17.9 million respectively

Indian MoD to review coastal security capabilities after Mumbai attack
The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced a review of India's coastal security capabilities and related procurement plans following the terrorist attacks that took place at the end of November in Mumbai. According to an MoD statement, Indian Defence Minister AK Antony led a meeting on 3 December that was tasked with evaluating India's plans for increased coastal security, including the acquisition of "systems and platforms, including coastal radars and interceptor boats"
