La BI pour survivre et conquérir de nouveaux marchés, un levier indispensable à la mutation numérique de l'entreprise
Si la numérisation améliore les processus de l'entreprise, elle génère aussi une abondance de données qui ne peuvent devenir pertinentes sans le recours à des outils d'analyse décisionnelle. L'enjeu est de taille car c'est grâce à la connaissance de leur fonctionnement interne et des interactions avec leur écosystème et plus particulièrement en étudiant le comportement de leurs clients que les entreprises vont pouvoir rester concurrentielles et adapter leur modèle économique au nouveau paradigme du numérique.
L'utilisation de la Business Intelligence (ou BI, l'informatique décisionnelle, ndlr)en entreprise n'est pas un phénomène nouveau. Il y a déjà plusieurs années que des grands groupes ont mis en place des solutions d'analyse décisionnelle. Datawarehouse, ETL, DMM, datamining, font partie du quotidien de beaucoup de DSI surtout lorsque l'entreprise gère un important volume de données clients. Cependant jusqu'au début des années 2000, l'utilisation de la Business Intelligence restait relativement "statique". Chez CANAL+, par exemple, les données et outils étaient essentiellement mis au service de la Finance et de la Distribution (Pôle en charge de la commercialisation des abonnements) pour consolider les éléments financiers et suivre l'évolution des abonnements, croissance brute, nette, ARPU (revenu moyen par abonné), Churn (taux de rotation du parc).
Le tournant de la numérisation et du web
Mais ce modèle a changé avec la numérisation et l'essor du web qui se sont propagés dans toute la société et ont engendré une masse phénoménale de données. Car la numérisation et le web, c'est d'abord la dématérialisation des échanges. Que ce soit en interne avec la mise en place de processus plus fluides ou en externe avec par exemple, l'envoi de la facture par Internet ou la possibilité pour un client de s'abonner à un service directement via son poste de télévision. La numérisation et le web, c'est aussi la désintermédiation qui permet au client de rentrer directement en contact avec son opérateur sans devoir passer par un tiers. Mais surtout pour une entreprise dont le savoir-faire repose aussi sur la technologie, le numérique entraîne un véritable bouleversement du modèle opérationnel en place et la mise sous tension de son modèle économique avec l'explosion de la concurrence. Pour CANAL+, cela signifie que nous sommes passés de la cassette au tout numérique, de la télévision analogique et mono-écran à une offre qui est aussi sur plusieurs écrans et asynchrone, d'une relation client par téléphone à une relation numérique via plusieurs canaux (TV, PC, SVI, Tablette, Smartphone). Avec pour corolaire une inflation exponentielle de données plus ou moins structurées. Leur volume a progressé de 40% par an depuis 2005 et cette courbe va continuer à croître ce qui n'est pas sans poser des défis technologiques et organisationnels. Mais c'est surtout une formidable opportunité car cette information a une énorme valeur potentielle à condition de savoir l'exploiter et la qualifier.
La BI pour survivre et conquérir de nouveaux marchés
C'est là que les outils de BI prennent toute leur importance. Grâce à eux, l'entreprise va pouvoir mieux connaître ses clients mais aussi mieux comprendre leurs usages et attentes. Par conséquent, toutes ces informations si elles sont bien exploitées vont permettre aux entreprises d'améliorer leurs services et de concevoir des offres personnalisées. La BI va l'aider à ajuster ses investissements pour aller là où son modèle sera le plus rentable et la satisfaction client maximale.
Pour CANAL+, maîtriser ces informations, savoir les valoriser, c'est assurer la pérennité de notre activité et se préparer à conquérir de nouveaux marchés. Et si nous ne le faisons pas, d'autres acteurs se positionneront. C'est en cela que la Business Intelligence est un véritable accélérateur économique car elle nous fournit les outils pour survivre et accompagner la révolution numérique.

From an event planner in Puerto Vallarta to the owner of a surfing school in Costa Rica, these folks launched businesses in their dream destinations.

Zac Campbell was a partner in a Seattle-based interior design firm in 2001 when he took a vacation in Puerto Vallarta. The town's laid-back lifestyle, ocean views and adventurous spirit made it hard to leave.
After some soul-searching, Campbell realized he wanted to return to two early passions: cooking and event planning. Growing up in Asia, he'd often spend hours in the kitchen and loved helping friends and family plan parties, even starting an event-planning business in Tokyo at age 16.
So when he returned to Seattle, he enrolled in culinary school. "Food is something that feeds the soul and you can take anywhere in the world," he said.
After some soul-searching, Campbell realized he wanted to return to two early passions: cooking and event planning. Growing up in Asia, he'd often spend hours in the kitchen and loved helping friends and family plan parties, even starting an event-planning business in Tokyo at age 16.
So when he returned to Seattle, he enrolled in culinary school. "Food is something that feeds the soul and you can take anywhere in the world," he said.
Two years later, Campbell made the 72-hour drive back to Puerto Vallarta. There he combined his love of food with his eye for design to launch Eventful Moments, a wedding and corporate events planning firm.
Business is growing -- he has a full-time staff of four and just opened a state-side office in Dallas -- yet he enjoys a more well-balanced life. In Puerto Vallarta, "you can live that retired dream," said Campbell. "There is nothing like going to work wearing flip flops and shorts."

The Boeing Co., Seattle, Wash., is being awarded a $136,598,000 modification to a previously awarded advance acquisition contract (N00019-09-C-0022) to procure long-lead materials in support of P-8A low-rate initial production II aircraft.
Work will be performed in Seattle, Wash. (63.8 percent); Greenlawn, N.Y. (11.7 percent); Baltimore, Md. (10.9 percent); North Amityville, N.Y. (8.3 percent); and McKinney, Texas (5.3 percent), and is expected to be completed in December 2013. Contract funds will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year.
The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity.

Apple Announces Over 100,000 Apps Now Available on the App Store
CUPERTINO, California—November 4, 2009—Apple® today announced that developers have created over 100,000 apps for the revolutionary App Store, the largest applications store in the world. iPhone® and iPod touch® customers in 77 countries can choose from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel. App Store users have downloaded well over two billion apps, continuing to make it the world’s most popular applications store.

The release of iPhone OS 3.0 this summer made over 100 new features available to iPhone and iPod touch users including Cut, Copy and Paste; MMS; landscape view for Mail, Text and Notes; stereo Bluetooth; shake to shuffle; parental controls; automatic login at Wi-Fi hot spots and Push Notifications. Google plus Twitter equals a motherlode of fodder

If you were all prepared to dazzle your cubicle mates this morning with some insightful analysis of the reportedly imminent IBM acquisition of Sun Microsystems, you might want to shift gears, because the deal they'll be talking about is Google's rumored interest in Twitter. Late Thursday, TechCrunch reported it had two separate sources saying the search sovereign was in "late stage negotiations" to acquire the microblogging phenomenon, later supplemented by a third source saying the talks were actually in an early stage and included other partnering possibilities. Kara Swisher's sources checked in later to describe the contacts between the company as "very preliminary" discussions about real-time search and "product stuff."
That is where the facts, such as they are, end, but it still serves as the jumping-off point for a spate of speculation, in which you are welcome to join. To hold your own in the watercooler chatter, here are some points on which you may want to develop an opinion:
* Would this be the right move for Google to extend its hegemony and monetizing magic into real-time search of the conversational stream?
* What's the value of Twitter as a strategic acquisition ($500 million? a billion?), and might we see a bidding a war?
* Would Twitter and its investors be better off staying independent for now, riding its momentum and developing its potential?
* And finally, what would such a deal mean for designer Douglas Bowman, who just recently stalked away from Google, citing philosophical differences, and hired on as creative director at Twitter.
